Hi, I'm new at this too and am hoping to grow loads in my newly built raised beds. I love the idea of your blog - hopefully it'll give me a nudge as to what I could/should be doing in the garden

        Hi Matt!

Just read your blog - nice idea re the terraced garden I'm guessing you're near Nottingham since you mentioned a reclamation yard in Selston - I'm from Mansfield originally, though I've lived "down south" all my adult life. Lucky you getting re-runs of Carol Klein - we only have the basic cable package these days, and I don't think that includes UK Gardens

Anyway, welcome to the forum from another newbie!

Welcome aboard Matt. The blog's a great idea, it'll help you keep track of what you've done in future years and also, when things are a little bleak looking outside, you can look back and see why it's worth the wait for the next growing season.

            Good luck.

Nice blog Matt. We have a resident robin (NOT called Raymond!) who follows me round and comes within a couple of feet of where I'm digging. Welcome to the grapevine.

Hey thanks for the warm welcome guys.

To answer some of the above questions.

I am from near Mansfield. I have built the raised beds and have 5 x 1m square plots. I have also built a little section so I can grow peas up against the side of the shed where they should be quite sheltered from the wind.

I am planning on using 4 for veg and 1 for herbs.

What I will be growing i'm not yet quite sure. Hopefully I will get some beetroots in this weekend (weather permitting) and then some carrots and potato's.

I have 2 books I am reading but its quite confusing due to all the soil types, veg that grow at different speeds, intersowing etc.............. lol

Glad you enjoy the blog. I have mainly done it to give me an incentive as I am one of those people who starts something then loses interest ,so if I have people reading and leaving comments etc. it SHOULD spur me on! lol
