hi my name is jamie im a chef and as i cook alot of veg i thought it was time that i grew my own veg for my family. As i have a 2 year old son i would like him to eat vegetables with some flavor as the super market veg is just massed produced and doesnt have a taste. I do seem to have green fingeres, proberly came down in the genes as my great great uncle was the gardener to lord lonsdale so im glad i managed to get my allotment as they are hard to get in axminster as hugh got most of them for his chickens!!!!!! If any one needs any advice on cooking veg or recipes would be glad to help and if i can pick your brains about growing veg i would be most greatful yours jamie

Hi Jamie and welcome to the Vine!
I'm sure you'll have lots of fun on here, it's really friendly and overflowing with helpful and witty advice!
I look forward to picking your brains on the cookery front too!Nestled somewhere in the Cambridgeshire Fens. Good soil, strong winds and 4 Giant Puffballs!

Welcome aboard the good ship grapevine Jamie, be careful, it's addictive.
I too want to grow veg for my children - I'm growing veg at the moment, just need some children to feed now. I wanted to be at a point (or somewhere near at least) where I could provide most of my veg needs myself, rather than relying on tasteless (in the main) supermarket produce.
Plenty of helpful advice on here, and then there's me.
Good luck.
By the way, do you go by the "if it grows in the ground put it in cold water, then bring to the boil, if it grows above ground, put it straight in boiling water" saying?A simple dude trying to grow veg. http://haywayne.blogspot.com/

Practise makes us a little better, it doesn't make us perfect.

this is true
all though this is true the best way to cook veg is in a steamer. as the taste and nutients degrade when you boil them. You can buy a stemer for about 15 quid in the super market which is well worth it . But back to the question the answer
is yes and if its grown under ground put a lid on it. this is realy addictive as well. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1why not email me for recipe ideas they are all welcome email at thecookingwizard@yahoo.co.uk
