Newbie in West Berks

Hi Everyone

New to the Grapevine.

Having been rather disheartened after the rains of July 20th last year (and the rest!) I somewhat neglected my garden. Took this week off though to put this right. Late I know but the pressures of work meant I couldn't take the time earlier.

I have a small plot in the garden of 10m x 7m and have spent this week digging it over and removing the covering of weeds that have made it home for the last 6-9 months; I won't be letting it get that bad again I can tell you. Cuts, bruises, aches and even sunburn (well, wind burn).

All done now and ready to plant out when ready. I prefer to start things off in a greenhouse to give things a chance in the heavy soil. Looking forward to a better year than last, I think we all are? I looks like a veg garden now and all I need to complete the picture is some veg! LOL

I have only been gardening for 3 years (this'll be my 3rd summer) so will no doubt be asking for advice and help at every turn.

It'll be good to hear from anyone expecially anyone in West Berks

Thanks Barrie, didn't really get down as such, just disappointed that all the hard work on a "greenfield" plot got washed away. not much i could have done though so no big deal

Welcome to the vine. Yep definately hoping for a better summer this year. It sounds as if you have done the hard part, preparing (for backache) the ground.

What are you planning on growing?

Welcome to Grapevine. I am still quite new to this site, only posted a few times. Live in Berkshire, we have an allotment in Southcote and this is our first year so not sure how well things will grow!

Leeks, Onions, Garlic S/Corn, BN Squash, Courgettes, Cauli, Purple Sprouting, Broco, Red Cabbage, White Cabbage, Sprouts, Raddish, R/Bean, F/Bean, Mange Tout, Raspberries, Blackberris, Blueberries....

i am sure there are some others. unlike my previous two years i wants to get longer harvesting seasons or at least have something cropping all year - weather permitting!

what about you what are you growing?

Good to hear from you. I am just outside of Hungerford. Fortunate position of having loads of space and restricting myself to what I can actually manage was the challange when I dug up the grass last year. Aren't hired rotovators fun!
