  • new to allotmenting ,any advice welcome

    Hi everyone
I got my first allotment in February after a 2 1/2 year wait. Ive spent the last few months digging, rotavating, digging and filling about 50 rubble sacks with couch grass roots. We've put in 7 raised beds, a polytunnel of our own design, a set of compost bins made from pallets and yesterday we finally put up our shed. So far I have planted onion sets, carrots and parsnips, garlic and potatoes and my conservatory at home is overflowing with seedlings.
    Loving every minute.

Welcome tenpin, sounds like you have got things up and running nicely well done, Have you got some photos
I have just got my allotment at end of Feb and still working on it to get some beds ready for planting out this year - my greenhouse is full of seedlings waiting to be planted on to plot.
    Good luck and well done

                Hello fellow newbie!
Now, you've got a pond sunk already. I'm keen to drop one into our plot and get the frogs/newts settled in. Also have taddies in pond in garden. Q. How easy is it to "transport" taddies from pond to pond? I think I've heard they don't like it much. Are you leaving yours to become inhabited by itself or going to "seed" it somehow?
                Any top tips appreciated! :-)
                Cheers

Hi plot17b I have actually removed some spawn from our local forest park and placed it in my pond a week ago . So far so good they have hatched and I now have a multitude of tadpoles. Good luck with yours. I just collected them in a large plastic bag making sure there was plenty of water surrounding them ,then I placed it in another bag and put the handles of both bags around my gear stick when I drove off.
