Hi, I joined the grapevine a few days ago and have decided it's time for my first post!
I'm relatively new to gardening having had only a very small flagged yard (Coronation Street style) until moving to an old house needing a lot of work and a large (about 1/3 acre) of garden needing even more work, about 2 1/2 years ago! According to one of our neighbours the garden was once very well cared for with fruit trees and rose beds, however it has been left untended for many, many years and is now pretty much a jungle! There are still some of the fruit trees standing (pears, damsons and a few varieties of apple) but they are very large and I need plenty of protective clothing to get past the brambles and nettles to get near them! and I have managed to clear a small area and attempted to grow some veg last year. The only success was the potatoes! I have also had a bit of success with tomatoes which I have been growing in the 70 year old conservatory which is gradually falling to bits. I was very late in planting seeds this year so am just going to wait and see what happens and hope the weather is better than last year.
I'm already picking up many tips and look forward to getting more.
