welcome to the vine open-cases,how did you arrive at the name,?sounds like you doing just fine, the more you use the site, the more confident you'll get, there are a lot of us who never will be fully conversant, but you can still do enough to get the heaps of information, and in time you will find you will be giving your knowledge,i am hoping to get a bigger undercover growing area,my hubby comes from Wheatley Hill, near Durham, has been down here since the early 50,when parents moved along with other family members, has long since lost his dialect,i used to love hearing his mum speak
best of luck.Last edited by lottie dolly; 09-05-2008, 09:35 AM.sigpicAnother nutter ,wife, mother, nan and nanan, love my growing places, seed collection and sharing, also one of these

Welcome to the 'Vine Open-Cases
I'm sorry, I'm probably The Enemy, being born & raised in Sunderland But you had the upper-hand last game, so hopefully we can have a truce over the veg ?!!
As for cats, they hate smells & being wet, so set yourself up with a SuperSoaker water pistol filled with dilute vinegar, or lemon juice (or pee, they really hate that) and have a bit of target practice. They'll soon by-pass your garden, or stay off the veg patch if it's your own cats being a problem!!

Hi Lottie dolly,
My parents nearly went a little farther than that, Australia, they wanted to emigrate, (i,d have a hell of a twang if we had went there) don't know the full story, but we didn't go, may have been because there is 10 of us, three lads n five lasses, came by the name open-cases from the job I do now, wont bore you with the details coz its not very interesting at all, but it pays the mortgage, if you get me drift, speak again sometime later, haway the lads

Hi SarzWix
Youre not really the enemy, but just want to say WE are Cock 'o' the North again, and again and again, Glad youre lot stayed up though, pity the smoggies went out on a high note, never mind they arnt even Northerners, (probably upset a few people over that remark!!). Unusual name that you have there whats it mean?. Tried the water pistol, but used a different ammo 'ballbearings', if they hit, did the cat run or what, (only kidding), we are an animal loving country and people, or is it an of a animal country, Cheers for the advise talk again no doubt.

Welcome to the vine open-cases!
Sounds as if you are either a retired copper or a warehouse worker!!
I too was out at my allotments this weekend, shirtless and doing a lobster impression!
Are you an allotment gardener or do you grow your stuff in your own garden?
Looking forward to hearing about your gardening exploits!
PS I have a Cabernet Sauvignon vine which I planted 2 years ago and it has small bunches of grapes on it now(or are they the flowers?)! I also have another two indeterminate vines taken from cuttings and the parent grapevine had lovely pink sweet grapes. I intend planting one outside to grow over a pergola I've just made!My Majesty made for him a garden anew in order
to present to him vegetables and all beautiful flowers.- Offerings of Thutmose III to Amon-Ra (1500 BCE)
