  • Hello From Derby

    Hi,
I been looking through this forum for the last couple of months as a guest and have finally got around to registering.
I have loved gardening for years but our previous 2 bedroom townhouse only had a small garden and we really didn't have the space for growing veg. We moved to our present house 18 months ago and inherited a greenhouse but we really haven't had time to sort the garden out until this year.
I cleared out the weeds behind the back of the greenhouse earlier in the year and dug a half foot deep trench around two sides, which I lined with weed membrane and filled with gravel. I then built a couple of sturdy long planters and put carrots, Brocoli and cabbage into them, all of which seem to be doing fine. There is only about a three foot wide strip either side but I've also managed to get 2 lots of potatoes in patio planters and some leeks and shallotts in pots.
My greenhouse has 12 tomato plants along one side (Lemon Tree, Tom Robeson, Scatalone and Pomodoro), some lettuce, Pakchoi, chilli plants (Orange Habbenero and Del Rosso) Rocket, Strawberries, Cucumbers and Courgettes.
I built a rockery in one corner for the wife and also helped her add a strip of alpines into the border next to the patio a couple of weeks ago. We now just need to sort out the rest of the garden!

    Cheers
    Steve

Well done Steve, I reckon you've gotta start somewhere. If you grow anything at all and enjoy it and learn a few things along the way, then it's got to be worth it.

    p.s Welcome to the Forum.
