help palm trees

I know its not edible ! like the rest of my garden, but i have a palm tree, its about 8 foot tall and has a furry trunk and long branches with a fans on the end, the bottom branches are looking about ratty, i am sure someone told me that if i cut them off before they are completely brown i will kill the tree...is the correct ?

Nonsense. Cut them off, the tree will be better for it. (not all the leaves, obviously)

thanks for your reply ! its just the bottom branches as they have got really ratty and spoil the look of the tree. thanks
