Hello I'm Peter

I live in South Shields which is a seaside town on the east coast of England situated at the mouth of the tyne. I have rented an allotment for 2 and a bit years and loved every second. At this moment I am growing - Peas, Sugar snap,sweetcorn, potatos, leaks (obviously, I'm a northerner), runner beans, beatroot, onions, cabbage, swede, cauliflower, tomatoes, cucumber, calibrase, purple brocilli, melons, strawberries goosberry and more than my fare share of weeds. 1 year of seeds and all that.

Hi Pete, and welcome to the grapevine. I know your area slightly - I was at University in Durham - long ago! You seem to have a bit of all round the counter growing there! Well done. You'll always have weeds though. My neighbour is a meticulously tidy gardener (I'm NOT!) and reckons he spends more time on his knees than the Pope! I just hoe mine off. Depends on the weather but sometimes it works!

The guys on either side of my plot are retired and you never see a weed growing on theirs either. Puts mine to shame! Thankfully they are glad someone has taken the plot on and is getting on top of it.

I have relations who live in Seaton Canoe. My brother in law spoke to that guy on the beach the day he set off for Panama!

Hi Peter, where abouts is your allotment? We have just got an allotment on Brinkburn site. Any help or advise you can give to start us off? Have you put any early potatoes in yet? or is it too early. We are putting them in raised beds.
