  • just a quite hello

    Hi everyone

I have just got the gardening bug this all started when the food prices soared so we decided to start growing our own that is me Gill & Stuart my husband he does all the hard work and I'm the brains lol. we started with 10 ex battery chickens now have too many eggs have started to selll the excess
moved onto growing a selection of our favourites veggies plus strawberries & figs. we have five dwarf fruit trees a braeburn apple bramley apple a plum and 2 cherries, the apples are both fruiting well but the others didn't flower any ideas why ?. Only started in April and we already have a bumper crop must have green fingers lol, next project is making a poly tunnel, we are hoping to grow most of our fruit and veg all year round in it

    thats enough for now

    bye Gill

Hi saffy and welcome,it sounds like you have a lot going on already, the only thing i can think of regards your trees not flowering is,was there a frost earlyer on in the year,at the wrong time for the poor trees,i also am hoping to get a polytunnel on my allotment for next year, good luck to you both.
sigpicAnother nutter ,wife, mother, nan and nanan, love my growing places, seed collection and sharing, also one of these

Hi and welcome saffy (and Himself) - your trees might be too young to flower if you've only recently bought them. Sometimes it takes them a few years to summon up the ooomph.

Good luck with the growing and chicken-rearing.

        Hi Lottie dottie

Thanks for replying maybe it was the frost or as someone else said they may have been too young, good luck with your tunnel we are going to make ours similar to the one that alan from over the garden gate has made theres a lot of difference in the price a bought 24 x 14 ft is approx £850 to make yourself about £350 at the most.
Do you know if there is any fruit or veg that won't grow in poly tunnel as we intend to grow as much as possible in it
        regards
        Gill
