Just joined up after checking out some of the discussions, what nice people. I've been growing veg and herbs for a few years now. My pride and joy is the asparagus bed which is 6 years old now and nicely productive. I'm really chuffed that I've been harvesting veg continually for the last 12 months now - the over wintering leeks and broccoli took me right up to the asparagus, early peas and first earlies. I know I'm really lucky in the South West to have the milder conditions that make it a bit easier - but you can bet I'll be taking full advantage of that This year trying 3 sisters planting for the first time - everything seems really good at the moment, but some sun would be nice!

Hi Carl
Not far from Tiverton
Feeling a bit grrr, just cut down all the salad potato tops - the dreaded blight. I worried about it last year - but there was no question this year, absolutely classic. Can't really complain it's the first time it's happened and the crop seems reasonable. Think I'll order some 'Christmas' seed potato, to make myself feel betterLife is too short for drama & petty things!
So laugh insanely, love truly and forgive quickly!

yes i know the feeling about the potatoes this year, not blight but lack of potatoes in the ground when they are dug up.---) CARL (----

Hi Comfreyfan, welcome to the 'Vine
Shame about your spuds, but at least you saved some of the crop. I seem to be getting 'blight alerts' every other day at the moment, so I'm checking them over daily. Removed a few suspect leaves this morning off my maincrops, really hope I can keep them in a bit longer because I'm sure they're nowhere near ready yet

Welcome Comfreyfan
I'm in Ottery St Mary just down the M5 from you. I've suffered from lack of potatoes but lots of top growth, my first year of growing spuds so a bit disappointing.
I'm also getting blightwatch alerts everyday so have sprayed my tomatoes with bordeaux mix in the hope of saving them this year, I lost all of them to blight last year.
Hope you're enjoying this glorious sunshine this week...

Sounds like a good plan jackie j
Been a beautiful day - but at work all day, so couldn't take full advantage.
Very happy now though, just picked my first 2 tomatoes - the taste of a sunny warm fresh picked tomato has to be one of the best in the world! The ants had swarmed in the greenhouse and every little cobweb was smothered in them - I felt like Indiana Jones getting in there.
First real picking of runner beans nearly ready, can't wait!Life is too short for drama & petty things!
So laugh insanely, love truly and forgive quickly!
