Hello all. I've been lurking around here for a few days reading posts etc. and I thought it would be a good idea to register introduce myself.
I've just dug up a little plot next to my shed to start growing vegetables on - it's not huge, maybe 3m x 3m...but it will do me for now. It gets the sun most of the day, and there's room for me to expand it if I want to. If I get the hang of it I may even re-locate my shed to the side of the house and put up an 8x6 greenhouse.
I'm new to growing vegetables, but I've had reasonable success with the garden in general, and also with house plants (apart from Bonzai trees!) My father-in-law grows vegetables with some success, and it's him that's inspired me to start. Not the ideal time, but after a bit of reading it's surprising what you can grow even through the winter. My wife is a keen amateur chef, so she's looking forward to having a small kitchen garden
I'm planning on getting some winter radish, lettuce, spinach, onions and garlic in soon. I might even try and sneak in some short rooted carrots to see if I can get away with it. I'll also be growing plenty of herbs as and when the time is right (still reading about that...)
This place seem nice, plenty of people about which is good. I frequent a couple of different forums for my various hobbies, and have always found them to be excellent sources of advice from like minded people
