Hi, my name is Jane, I'm 42 and live in Kippax on the outskirts of Leeds.
I'm fairly new to "growing your own veg" and started late this year, with moderate success and you could say I'm hooked! Our tomatoes have done magnificently as have the strawberries, mange tout, peas and various herbs - all grown from seed. (Has anyone else been plagued by snails and enormous orange slugs this year? I've never seen as many and they seem rather partial to turnip and pak choi!)
We bought our first greenhouse this Summer but as the garden is small, sloping and on different levels, we are really desperate to get our own lottie. Have emailed the local Council who confirmed that I have been added to the waiting list and am currently no 16. Have also left details with other local non council run plots but to date have had no success. I have just read the forum about waiting lists, so will dig my heels in and start badgering as I believe there are plots which are overgrown probably waiting to be cleared first!
I have just planted some small rows of onion sets and garlic, and if anyone has any ideas or suggestions for veg I can plant now in limited space for overwinter it would be appreciated.
I'm going to try Pak Choi and Salad in a growbag in the greenhouse once the tomato plants have finished as suggested in this month's Grow Fruit & Veg mag.
Thanks
