Hi all,
I found the Grow Your Own mag by accident (the usual, Hubby looking at every car mag on the shelf. Whilst doting wife waits patiently.) Picked it up and I am totally hooked. So thought I'd better get round to saying hello.
I am a late starter this year, Only bought the house in June, so I am late cropping everything. Just ripped flower beds out and through loads of seeds in to see what would come up! I managed to grow Runner Beans, Courgettes, Pickling onions, Beetroot, Radish, Webbs Lettuce, Sweetcorn, Cucumber,Red Cabbage. And I still have Caulis, Brocolli, Sprouts, Leeks, Carrots, White Cabbage, Spring onions, Beetroot and Parsnips in the ground. (think that's it.)
Oh, and 100 onion sets went in 6weeks ago and peas about 1 month ago.

Hello!Sounds like you're doing pretty good for a beginner!!...in fact it sounds like you could drop the beginner label!!...in 5 years I've never had success with red cabbage,up until this year....& the darling chooks have had "it"!!

I just through a load of seeds in, and everything came up now I have a freezer full of veg and fruit. And pickles and chutney's coming out of my ears.

I'm also from northwich,small world we live in.
I'v not got an allotment,just a small corner of a field and it is small but over the past 3/4 years I'v slowly transformed it and my actual area is getting bigger, this past summer I grew runner beans,french beans,onions,peas,sweeds,couliflower,brussle sprouts,cabbages,carrots,beetroot and of course potatoes also lots of stawberries tomatoes, we didn't buy any veg from early summer onwards.
this was very hard work but cant describe the feeling of eating a sunday roast with everything supplied except the meat grown myself,:-)
