I make soup with the young leaves...onions, stock, maybe carrots and a spud....all zapped and served with chunky bread. The leaves wilt down to nothing....delish !...and the wildlife get the rest of the plant.
Its something I look forward to every Spring .

Hi Purple Primrose and welcome to the vine.
I live a mile and a half from the coast so it's fairly mild in the winter.
Plenty of good advice on here.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

That nettle soup recipe sounds good, Nicos. I'll give it a try in the spring.

Hi, Bramble. You're right about the good advice. I've just been reading page after page of advice on growing onions from seed. I've only grown them from sets before but got some free Ailsa Craig seed attached to a magazine so I'm thinking of having a go at growing them.
