  • Hello everyone!! 😊🌷

Hi all! I'm Mel, I just moved to Essex 2 weeks ago (Buckhurst Hill) and love it!
My fiancè and I are attempting our first "raised beds"in our back garden and we'd love to meet with any other passionate gardener! We've also enquired about getting an allotment to rent but it's still early days.. I'm going to read your posts nice meeting you all!!

Hello and welcome, melmel. Quite a few people here garden at home rather than on an allotment, so you'll have plenty of good company.

Congratulations on your new home and best wishes for a great growing year.

Hello and welcome to the vine Melmel

I’m a back garden grower who’s never wanted an allotment. I love popping into the garden to do a bit of sowing/planting or to harvest a bit of veg or fruit during the day.
          Location....East Midlands.

              Hello MelMel and welcome
Don't hesitate in asking question even if you think they silly and stupid. Nothing is silly and stupid its all about learning
We are all still learning or finding new things out that they never knew before.

Welcome. Not too far from me in Sunny Suffolk. Good luck on getting the allotment, are there waiting lists in your neck of the woods?

Hello Melmel, welcome to the Vine, if you go for raised beds I would suggest that you start building them up by adding old tree branches and hedge cuttings if you can, as this helps by holding moisture, its basically a variation of the hugelkultur method (look it up) I dont have an allotment but do 4 raised beds in the back garden and happy to help if I can
it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.
