Nice to meet you all - I'm a fairly novice gardener, working a weedy (double)plot in Derby with my wife, brother-in-law and a friend.
Really looking forward to the summer and starting to gather in our crops that we'll be planting soon - though perhaps not as much as I'm looking forward to getting the rotavator hired.
At the moment we've planted a couple of redcurrant canes and a handful of spring narcissi (to have at least something in the ground and growing while we turn over the rest of the plot) - the garlic would have gone in Saturday last too, if the soil hadn't been near-frozen...........
This apart, all going well - would have liked to have got more beds dug out by now, but the weather's not been so great. Not a lot to be done there.
Jobs for the next few weeks involve:
- digging out more beds on the plot
- getting some bits and pieces (toms, peppers and aubergines) started off indoors while the heating's on
- sorting out some bits of timber and finally building the cold frame I've been talking about for, oh, ages
- starting off a decently-made compost heap
- hiring the rotavator and using it!
Looking forward to getting to know you all, talking about garden-y things and (hopefully) getting and sharing good advice.
Should be a lot of fun!
