  • Hi there i am a newbie in Wolverhampton

I have posted a couple of questions already but i thouught it was about time iintroduced myself.
I live in a village near wolverhampton with my wife and son. We have another child on the way. I have been growing veg for about 4 years now and keeping chickens for two.
This year we are making a big change, we have built 5 raised beds ( 15 inches deep, and 4 feet square ) Also dug 4 trenches in the lawn wich are about 8 feet long and a just over a foot wide.
I would be gratefull to hear from anyone in our local area or anyone who can guide me through the filling of all of the beds to provide us with a steady supply of vegetables throughout the year.
    Thanks in advance,
    James

Hi and welcome to the vine. Suggestions for what to grow - what things do you like and find expensive to buy - always a good place to start.
        Happy Gardening,

We love courgettes, sweedes and salads. I tend to struggle with tomatoes due to the lack of a greenhouse and the last two really wet summers.

Hi JayJay, what about outdoor toms, I had a good crop this year. I have a greenhouse (only a plastic one from Argos) but it does the job, might be worth considering. It's quite large and cost me about £45 when they had an offer on.

                Hi JJG and welcome

As to the Greenhouse, I was lucky enough to get 1 off freecycle. Look in your local papers/Freecycle. The walk in ones that mrsc2b mentioned also aren't bad at all(just remember to stake them down... mine blew over a few times before I got the hint ) I am going to be growing for the first time this year in my glass one and cannot wait! Good luck with the sproglet on the way too!
