  • I can, I will

Just signed up/in. Getting back to growing my veg having started with one raised bed last year, 1.2m by 2.5m (roughly). Having shown that it can be done and the OH admitting that I haven't poisoned him, I am adding a second bed 2.7m x 5.3m. OH would be quite happy if all I produced was corn salad but I am aiming for rather more variety than that.

Queries abound not least about rotating crops in a single raised bed, but I'll take them elsewhere.

For now, hello and power to the compost bin!

        Welcome to the Vine Icaniwill.
I'm looking at the size of your planned second bed. That's very big. The object of raised beds is never to have to walk on them so you have to be able to reach into the middle from both sides. In practice that means they shouldn't be more than 4' wide.
You could make that second bed into 2 beds - that would give you 3 beds and help with crop rotation.
        Just a thought.
        Good luck.

From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.

Thank you all for your kind welcomes. I can see that I will be hanging out here quite a bit.

I lurve raised beds and would have many many more if I could. I'm on the list for an allotment which I would populate with RB's at the drop of a hat. I am proud to say I am equally enthusiastic about compost bins and water butts (although the OH does wonder whether this is normal). Here's hoping the crops approve.

Yes the new bed is rather wide but I'm working on a solution to that. More at a later date (even if it doesn't work!).

Hello and welcome to the vine. I grow my veg in raised beds, they are addictive. I'm adding another this year and waiting for kids to out grow trampoline so I can gain a few more
