  • Hello from Suffolk

Hello, just thought I would introduce myself. I have been lurking for a little while and have plucked up the courage to join your merry band. You are a very knowledgeable and friendly lot and have no doubt that I will be learning lots! I have a medium sized plot for my fruit and veg in my garden. Sadly I didn"t grow anything in 2008 but normally do. This year I will be striving to get back on track. My soil is sandy and constantly lack moisture/nutrients but with a steady supply of horse manure things should improve hopefully!
    All advice gratefully received!

Hi and welcome to the vine. Glad you took the plunge. Similarly, 2008 wasn't a great year for growing things for me either. I started well, but tailed off by September and had nothing ready to replace the summer crops with - oh well, you live and learn.

I'm on heavy clay/chalk so have to work with raised beds, but unfortuately I parted company from my horse manure source (my ex boss kept three and was only too glad for me to fill the boot of my MG up at lunchtimes), so I need to find another a bit nearer the lottie if possible.

Hope to catch up with you soon,

    Becki

Hello,as you can see from location bit, another Suffolk person...we're getting closer to taking over the vine!!!
Put 2008 behind you & get focussed on 2009...it wasn't the best year for growing last year...but I have every faith in this one!

          Oh another Suffolk person!
How is Southwold these days? Fairly quiet I bet, until the Londoners come up at Easter?

Hello Solebay Diamond, I'm living in Newmarket. you would think with all those racehorses around my veg should be huge, sadly no as they are bedded down on paper or shavings so not much good for gardening. Typical!

Hi - well I for one am NOT from Suffolk - but I welcome you non-the-less! You've made a good start by joining the Grapevine - these good folks keep me on my toes - reminding me when to sow and plant (though you do have to take account of people's location and whether they have a greenhouse - and whether it's heated!)
The What I did Today thread is a great reminder.

Now had I had my detective cap on last night....I mightn't have needed to ask!!

Thank you all for your kind welcomes,The name is a bit of a giveaway isn"t it!! Not so quiet here in winter any more as people come all year round nowadays but pleasant anyway. Light sandy soil and a bit of sea spray here but not too bad all in all (especially when the old back is playing up a bit!)

A welcome from an ex Suffolk resident. A lovely part of the country to live in I have to say.
Sure you will learn plenty on here, but will also have knowledge to impart too.
