  • Why, hello there...

Hey everyone, just stumbled across this site and it's wonderful!
Well, I'm a 30 yr old female from Leicestershire. I adore anything to do with nature and have been a keen gardener (always learning) for years and years.

I am always working away on my cottage garden and am on the brink of finally getting an allotment. I work in a garden nursery and love it (get tons of free advice and a constant supply of gorgeous plants!).

    Nice to meet you all..

Welcome Irisgirl. I love cottage garden plants, especially as they seem to attract a lot of bees! Would love to have a go at beekeeping but unfortunately our gardens are all so close together, not sure the neighbours would approve! I'm actually glad I don't work in a nursery, only because I'd probably be bankrupt by now cos I'd be too tempted!!

Hi Irisgirl and welcome to the grapevine, I took over a mini allotment plot in January, its only 12' x 30' and in bad need of some good compost, but I am so excited at the prospect of having somewhere to grow some more fruit and veg this year.

Yes I too love cottage garden plantings and I think the more good insects that we can attract the more they will eat those less desirable ones.

Enjoy it on here, and yes it is full of good well tried information.

Hi Irisgirl - welcome to the grapevine. If I worked in a nursery I'd spend all me wages before I got them home!

Hi irisgirl - A very warm welcome to the vine,

You're very lucky working in a nursery, being able to get everything when it comes in - i hope you have a great success with the allotment.

              Regards

              Tony

Awww, thanks for the really warm welcome everyone...

Last year I went into the nursery to buy a plant and ended up getting a job! I have spent lots of money on plants (even with discount) but it has opened my eyes up to a whole new world.
I love the changing seasons and especially spring when all the veg plants come in. The smell of tomatoes in the poly tunnels is fab

I'm converting my current small veg garden into a woodland space as it is very shady and in moving my perennials around I have space to buy more...the girls at work are currently potting up some gorgeous perennials..esepcially some beautiful Centurea..

Oh and yes, I'm iris mad..have bought every type there is at work and am currently planning a bearded iris bed/cactus dahlia bed..

Good for you, I absolutely adore Irises too, my Mum has a yellow and white one (bearded, I think) that smells of lemon - delicious, makes you want to eat it! I also love Cranesbill Geraniums, small flowered Clematis and rambling Roses.

                    Good luck with it all.
