  • Hello all! Newbie from New England USA

Hi, I'm new here and look forward to meeting you all and getting a lot of advice for the coming season. For the past 5 years I have been working with aquatic plants for my fish tanks. I'm pretty good with that. I also have a knack for bringing certain potted plants to new life. I don't have outdoor property of my own, but I have been given permission to help arrange a pleasing landscape for my church. I live in zone 5b, and need a lot of ideas. There are a couple of certain trees that the priest wants, such as a Weeping Cherry tree and Blue Spruce. Those are easy enough. But, I was also getting ideas from friends in Germany, and it is difficult to find the plants here, such as a yellow Winter Jasmine. I really want to get a couple of those to place around the church sign, but I can't find them for sale here.
So, that is a quick intro to me, and a rundown of the direction I am starting in. I look forward to meeting the rest of you and hope to become a well-established member here, myself.

Hi Beeker, welcome to the forum. You will find both good advice and good freinds here.
Good luck with the hunting for the plants you would like.

Hi Beeker and welcome. I'm a newcomer myself and can't help you with this particular question but I'm very interested to know where you are from. I love your part of the world and its my favourite holiday destination. I love Boston, Martha's Vinyard, Nantucket, Cape Cod, P-Town... in fact we'll be going this Autumn (or Fall as you say) for dh's 50th Birthday. Dh has even been looking at property to buy in P-Town to let out as a holiday home and for us to visit more often once we're retired. Anyway GOOD LUCK with your quest !

Welcome to the Vine Beeker. I've been to New England and it's just gorgeous.
Maybe you'd like to go back into your personal profile and enter New England there. Zone 5B is pretty meaningless to most of us.
Hope you have a great growing season. We're just getting things underway here.
Has spring arrived with you ?

From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.

Thank you all for the warm welcomes.

Yes, the area is very nice. I like having all four seasons, and they reach their fullest potential here.

            Alice,
I think spring is beginning about now. We just had another big snow storm, but I have seen robins around. The forecast for the coming week shows temperatures in the mid 40s. This coming Friday and Saturday should be reaching close to 60. Also, yesterday, I saw some plants poking through, but I'm not sure what they are.
