  • HI - newbie to the site

    Hi everyone,

I am new to this site, after having a quick look around it looks pretty good and friendly I have to say.
I am fairly new to growing fruit and veg in that in the past I have grown stuff with the kids cause they enjoy it - we have grown sweetcorn, runner beans, potatoes (in a dustbin- not very successful) and strawberries. Couldn't believe how big the sweetcorn grew I don't think the neighbours knew what we were up to LOL.

Anyway enough rambling, I want to try and do this properly, I only have a small area in my garden and want to make some raised beds (keep the dogs off) and try growing more stuff to become more self sufficient - I can't believe the rising cost of some salad and fruit stuff at the moment - plus we have two guinea pigs who like to munch a lot of salad and my youngest (5) loves strawberries.

Anyhow that's me and my ideas - don't know how successful I will be but you can't beat just having a go LOL!

Welcome - I think we might get a better growing season this year. The last two have been pretty dire for weather. Best of luck!

Vicky I think it was just pure luck to be honest, me and my son when he was about 6 I think (he is now 13) just got some seeds and planted them, we didn't have a clue what we were doing. My dad was gardener and he had an allotment and as a kid I used to help him so everyone in my family says I have his green fingers LOL. I started with sweetcorn to just try and get my son to eat some veg - it worked.

Good luck I hope you are successful this time around.
