  • Another one...

Hi guys, I am joining the forum, been reading the mag for a couple of years and have grown small amounts of veg with varying success at home in containers.

Have now finally got my allotment and working furiously to get it spick and span for a full growing year, hoping to grow loads!

Personal info: 35, male, married one baby daughter (4 months), very limited space at home hence the allotment. Fed up of buying F&V in polythene from the supermarket, hence a real push for homegrown and self-sustinence.

Hi, what are you growing this year?

And, more importantly, do you keep all your seeds in a biscuit tin and 'rearrange' them on a regular basis, to the bemusement of your family?

                    Thanks guys.

I've planted spuds and onions. Tomorrow I am planning to put in a row or carrots and a row of beetroot. I've got loads of peas germinating now and runner beans starting to come up too, planning to build my canes/wigwams also if weather permits. Need to get some chicken wire tomorrow. I'll also build my trenches and dig in some compost, that's a good idea.

Also planning to try: parsnips, swede, lettuce, rocket, tomatoes (not on the allotment though), sweetcorn, spring onion, squash and pumpkin to break up a weedy area, radish. Undecided on brassicas

Fruitwise, got some raspberry canes and eventually plan to plant a row of rasps and a row of currants (black, red and white). Considering trying gojiberries simply for something different. And will plant a gooseberry bush!

I meant undecided on which ones to grow, not whether to grow them or not
