  • Another hello from Lancashire!

    Hi everyone!

I thought i'd pop on here to introduce myself and also ask the advice of some veterans.

I am Sophie, I live in Lancaster, I have 8 month old twin boys and in my 2 hours afternoon nap time I am trying to grow food for their ever-increasing appetites.

I have acquired a patch of my sister in law's garden and have very eagerly planted lots and lots of vegetables. My problem is that i'm really impatient and even resorted the other day to digging up a spud to see what was happening to it (nothing much but it has only been in there for 2 weeks)...eeek ! I know this is not the best thing to do, so I decided to dig up another patch and plant flowers as a present for said sister in law as she is in oz and will be back in 3 weeks. But then I found out today its too early for bedding plants, so please someone advise me please, I have a big patch of soil that does not a present make!

Sorry for my very lengthy introduction, I hope you made it this far.

    Sophie

    hi sophie

    welcome from lancashire too!

everyone's the same about being impatient. i check my seeds everyday to see if anythings happening.

you can put some bedding plants in now but you will need to cover them with horticultural fleece if frost is forecast. keep them protected and should be ok. or you could buy some hardy annual seeds pot marigolds, poppy, cornflower etc and scatter them on the bare ground
above the clouds the sun is shining and the sky is blue. if you look hard enough you can just about see it!

        good news!

well,I had a rummage around in my potato pots and...there are leaves coming up, hallelujah, no more poking around for me! Also, on very close (very) inspection of my little plot I am sure there are beetroot shoots popping up, well they'r purpley-red and in the beetroot lane so i think they must be. Honestly I am so excited about them all. Have also planted radishes yesterday as I read they are very fast growing. Isn't it so much fun?! I can't wait til 12.30 everyday as the boys have a two hour nap and i can go and check what's happening.

I'm glad everyone feels impatient, my fella was insisting I'm not the sort of character to be able to garden! xxx
