First day on the allotment

What a day! Our first at the allotment and we are delighted that we were able to make such a great start due the invaluable advice many of you have given on this site. We have been "lurkers" for a while and reading about everyone's experiences gave us the confidence to get a little plot of our own.

We are very excited and hope to grow lots of tasty (and pretty) things!

Crikey, that was a quick welcome! Allotment pictures will be posted ASAP, perhaps tomorrow - poor hubbie had to do the VAST majority of the digging today - what a hero!

We are in Crowborough, East Sussex and have a small plot on a brand new site recently bought by the Town Council, which used to be farmed by my brother-in-law until last year.

Brand new allotments sounds good - I imagine they're in a good condition if they were recently farmland. Well done hubby for your hard work, hope you don't feel it too much in the morning!

Hi J&T, welcome, glad you're excited about your lottie, this growing bug is so easily caught and nothing like as nasty as some of the other thing going around at the mo! Lets hope the weather stays good and you can really get thing going over this weekend, it's a good time to start, things are really starting to grow now. Good luck.

You lot are all mad! Fantastic!

Managed to get some seeds in yesterday - carrots, salad, beetroot and something else (I've forgotten, although I have made a paper plan, so that should be OK). We have got a free supply of organic(?) horse manure, which our lottie neigh(get-it?)bours are rather jealous of, so off to a good start.
