Have only just seen this section of the forum despite lurking for a few weeks. Thought it was about time I made myself known on here to the GYO masses.
The names Mark, 22 from the sunny north east . Have just decided this year to have a go at this growing food malarky. Have been given a full back garden to play with round the girlfriend's house. Only condition is that I leave some grass for her to walk on while pegging washing out.
Her mam isn't a gardening person and so the garden had been left to grow and grow weeds. It took me a fair while to get cracking but once I have something in my head, it gets done. I have dug out the grass from one side of the garden and deweeded it as best as I can, its going to take a while to get them all out, honestly, some of them were so deep they must have taken about 30 mins to dig out.
In the area that I have dug, have some spuds in there along with some tomatoes that look very poor it must be said. I was following the instructions off the packet and planted them out when I thought they should go out and they are tiny compared to the ones that I still have inside the house. Thanks to this forum I have managed to well harden them off and yesterday they were planted out in their final pots. (Lesson learned from the earlier plants).
I have earthed up the spuds twice already so hopefully they are coming along well. The amount of rain that we are getting lately can't be doing them any harm anyway.
I have a grow bag ready for some lettuce to go in, the free seeds that came with the current GYO, will that be ok to grow in there? Also on the way is a chilli plant from a co-worker of my girlfriend's mam. It is currently being hardened off and then I will have something else to nurture.
Must say that the bug has really biten me and I have been browsing t'internet so much lately for tips etc to help me further.
Look forward to getting to know you all and absorbing as much information as my brain will let me get away with off of here.
