  • Hello,

    Hello
I'm new to veg growing, but I'm an expert at growing grass and weeds! I live in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire.
We have 300' of south facing garden with 3 established plum trees which provide loads of fruit. And flowerery pretty things which my better half deals with.
I feel as though its time I made better use of some space and grow some veg etc. The stuff from the supermarket is so bland.
I'm keen on recycling used and unwanted materials my friends and family think I'm a bit of a Magpie I like to hoard things away and never throw anything away ( my wife just shakes her head )
I have read through some of the various posts and I'm in the right place for good sound advice.
Look forward to hearing from you.
    Cheers dokleaf11

Hi and welcome dokleaf! Many heare would kill (well, maybe maim) for that big a garden. You could certainly make a decent veg garden there. You need to start by striping off the turf. I did this in my mere 100! garden - but I did it a bit at a time and took 2 or 3 years to get it as I wanted it. Slow and steady - but make a small plot to start with and plant your favourite veg there. It will spur you on!

By the way, don't get rid of the turves. Stack them upside down in piles and let them rot down over a period of a couple of years and you'll have the most gorgeous loam.
Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant. ~Author Unknown
