  • Hello from a brand new member

    Hello to all fellow allotmenteers!

Introduced to this forum by the o/h Jabbawocky. As he says we got our plots about 3 years ago. The only casualty this year so far has been three rows of peas. The first three rows came up and are growing really strongly but the second sowing-nothing. Only one plant! Mice or squirrels maybe?

When we first got the plots (I've just realised that I have GAINED the plot-not LOST it!) we never thought we'd be able to fill them but we have now run out of room. Hopefully this year we'll manage complete self sufficiency on the veggie front as we almost made it last year.

There isn't much we aren't willing to try and grow and are enjoying experimenting with different things. We have a row of celeriac growing well at the moment and one of the other plotholders has given us a couple of dozen celery plants. We'd love some chickens and I'd like bees but sadly not allowed on an L/A site

Welcome GA, tell your OH that when I saw Jabbawocky on here, I couldn't get the song/poem out of my damned head all day and now you've started me off again.

Thanks for the welcome & sorry about the song!

You've made me think of that bl**dy song by Kylie Minogue - 'I can't get you out of my head' which is the song that always has the same effect on me. I'm sure that the guys will remember it for a completely different reason though!

Why can't I remember my passwords so easily? I should write them all down and set them to an annoying tune..................

Luckily I can't remember the song "Can't get you out of my head", however I can remember Kylie and I'm supposed to be staying calm at present but thank you all the same.

Welcome Green Angel. Wish I had enough land to be self sufficient but I only have a back garden (fairly big - with 4 chickens in) and half a small allotment plot. However, it's still the most amazing fun I've ever had with me clothes on!

                      Hi Flummery
Thanks for the welcome, I'm obviously in good company! You are sooo lucky to be able to keep chickens; that's something we'd really love. Not allowed 'livestock' on our allotment sadly and our garden is far far too small-the poor chickens would have to share with our two dogs and they never get any peace at all.

Ooops. Getting the hang of this posting lark....just discovered that I don't need to reply to everyone individually (DOH!) so I'll start again and say thanks to all for the warm welcome.

Has anyone got a bramble jelly recipe they can pass on? The wild ones around our allotment are just coming into fruit and it looks like it will be a bumper crop later on. I haven't made this before but I remember my mum making it when we were kids and it being the best thing ever. Would be a shame to waste all those lovely FREE blackberries!
