  • Hi all, new guy here.

    Hi everyone

My name is Calv, i live in Hampshire and am looking to learn more about growing my own food.

I've dabbled in container veg, but i usualy mages a few peas and thats it.

I have two daughters (10 and 11) who are very keen to help out, so when a friend directed me here, i thought i'd get some info from the experts.

So i look forward to chatting with you all, and maybe one day having some edible veg in my garden!

    Regards,

    Calv.

    Hello Calv and welcome!
What are you and your daughters planning on growing this year?

Hi Lou, nice to meet you.

Hmmmm...what veg to grow....well like i said in my intro, i am very much a novice gardener so am learning as i go.

To start us off i got some large planters and have done peas, mixed salad....but i have gone wrong with seed trays.

I planted everything from seed, but i didn't plan ahead and think about where to transfer the seedlings to, so i think they've kind of been wasted in a tangled mess. There were onions, tomatos, broad beans, cucumbers in the trays.

So apart from the salad and peas, which are doing fine, i'm looking to start again.

I have some garden space for beds, but need to look into preparing them. I am pretty impatient....i want it NOW!!! Rotating them too, i just found out that once you've picked the veg, you need to start again....which could be quite a wait. I thought the veg or fruit just kept regrowing om the same plant.

      Lots to learn eh?

      Calv.

Some will! Why don't you try some courgettes, they'll give you a good crop throughout the summer, and maybe some french or runner beans.
You could sow cut and come again salad leaves which you'll also get several harvests from.
Lucky you living in the new forest, it's such a beautiful area.
