Hi all,
Decided to register after lurking about for a few months.
Never had any interest in gardening until end of last year. Went on holiday last October to North West Scotland and after eating so much fresh veg when away, I decided when I came back that I wanted to dig up the grass and put in raised beds, so the hard work started. We dug through the winter, which was tough going but well worth it as we had finished by spring.
We now have 5 raised beds with onions, garlic, carrots, lettuce, brocolli, cauliflower, cabbage, leeks, parsnips, asparagus, swede and brussel sprouts. We bought the plants this year, as we were too late and disorganised to do seeds, but thinking of seeds next year.
We also have a couple of dozen tomato plants (all grown from seed -tigerella, orange, plum, beef, cherry and one other), some in greenhouse, others outside - all have fruit on them now. Courgette plants - 4 I think, cucumbers, chillis - both hot and sweet, and peppers.
Potatoes we have 3 - varieties Golden Wonder, Nicola and Romano.
We are growing these in bags, some proper potato bags others in old compost bags.
Started a bag of each end of May, another June, then 2 more of each mid June, so hopefully will get something. Does seem to be quite an expensive way of growing potatoes though.
Will get some pics up when it's daytime again.
Think I've just written a book, sorry.
Have already got loads of advise from the forum and will hopefully contribute myself.
Emma
