    Hi there BG and welcome

When you get chance put your location in your profile, this helps when asking for advice as what works in Cornwall won't necessarily work in the Isle of Skye

Hey beginnergardener, welcome to the Vine.

It won't take long on the forum, and a few learned-from mistakes before you'll need to change your name to expertgardener

"gurugardener", however, is reserved for a few special Grapes!

Hi beginnergardener, and welcome to the vine, we like questions, so you ask away, even if it sounds silly, we all have to learn, I don't mind admitting I'm still learning.

                    welcome!
                    1) make the border deeper/wider than you think you need (I've just spent the afternoon doubling mine while Mr Sheds is away... he won't even notice)

                    2) right plant, right place: work out your light & shade before you start planting

                    3) pick a colour scheme (I know, I'm a Nazi). Mine is vaguely blue & white, with the odd bit of black thrown in

                    4) don't buy seeds if you can get them on here for nowt (check the Seed Swap)

                    5) don't have any bare soil. Ever.

Thankyou for the advice, its a border that gets sun nearly all day, should i buy a soil tester kit to check it?
