  • Big huge hello from sunny Suffolk

    Hello there,
I've been visiting the forum for a while picking up some excellent info on past threads. I have a greenhouse, 4 large raised beds, various fruit trees and am looking to sneakily takeover more and more of the garden in the future I'm good on chooks (for eggs and meat) so if there are any people out there needing this sort of advice I'm happy to help . OKish on pigs too - although only done one year of weaners. Anyway hello everyone!

Hi Moola - welcome to the vine and it sound like you have loads of wisdom to offer! Whereabouts in Suffolk are you (N, S, E, W) It helps to put your location on your profile so we can all tell your area and weather patterns. I was born in E Suffolk myself but as you can see - I moved!
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

Our house is set within our grounds and we have a big pond that takes up most off the garden so the beds, greenhouse and chooks are all over the place - not very logically but hey that's how it has all emerged. We flood every Feb in one part of the garden, which is a pain and have heavy clay soil. Raised beds were the only way fwd ....

thank you for such a warm welcome
I'd LOVE to have ducks but the pond is superb for wildlife and we've been advised that if we pop ducks in it could upset the balance. We get mallards and have a resident moorhen family but couldn't push it any further.
As for salmon 'fraid not...but we do (or at least DID - we think the heron might have picked them off when the lwater levels got so low this summer) have old golden oarf (about a foot and a bit long) and some orangey golden tench. No signs of them tho' recently but the heron looked like it was quite happy and we've had kingfishers.....
