  • Hello all

After lurking on this site for several months have finally decided to write a post and introduce myself.

My wife and I took over the forest surrounding Sleeping Beautys Castle six months ago - (will add photos soon). Unfortunately in our area, the council does none of the clearing (which its supposed to) so its all been down to us, and with my wife pregnant (due any day) that means its been down to me - and my dad - whos loving it! and a very sturdy trailer.

I will put some photos on here soon of how the allotment has been developing. We have had a few interesting experiences so far. Firstly the allotment had not been properly worked in 10 years, and the former tenants had decided to dig a 8ft wide, 4 ft deep hole for a pond, which was full of sand. I have been slowly filling this with sods. There were also two lylandi trees that needed to come down, twenty foot of blackberry bushes and a lean to which leant away and the local youths had been using to smoke mary jane! I think they will be disappointed now the site is secure.

The annoying thing a couple of months ago, is that after nearly none stop work on all this by me and my dad, the council posted us a warning letter that the site was only partly worked and still covered in weeds. When I angrily phoned them, they said they classed the grass as weeds. Since then I've photographed every stage! Anyone else had similar problems?

Anyway, nearly got the site dug over and up to replacing the fences - when we get the weather back!

More about us - we love camping and the general outdoors. We have two daft dogs and soon to be first time parents after successful IVF! I enjoy wood turning and am currently restoring a classic firefly sailing dinghy. We live in South Cumbria on the coast (not flooded).

Would be great to hear from fellow viners.

    Welcome to the madhouse!

My wife is technically due today(not that sproglet seems to be taking a blind bit of notice of...lol)! When is your wife due?
All the best and hopefully the council will leave you alone when you show the photos. Looking forward to the pics. I got a half plot yesterday and can count myself lucky. Not near as much work as what you've got on your hands to whip it into shape.

The only reason people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory....

Always remember you're unique, just like everyone else.

Hi and welcome to the vine. It sounds like you've got a lot on your hands with a little more to come when your bundle of joy arrives.

Keep plugging at it as my dad would've said, once we hit spring and your lottie is filling up with growing veg it will be evident to the powers that be how much effort is going into your plot.
