  • Hello

I am a total newbie to Veg Gardening. I work FT I have been married for eons have 4 supposedly grown up children I have a small town garden which I was very proud of but is currently trashed thanks to my 9 spoilt chickens. I opened the post this evening to find have finally come up on my very local allotment list after 5 years of waiting. I feel like a child let loose in a sweetshop! I wanted to go and survey my plot tonight in the dark with a torch I was so excited!

I have waited so long I feel totally overwhelmed as to where to start? Any advice will be gratefully received.

    Thanking you all in anticipation

Hello and welcome to the madhouse

RedThorn (a regular on here) has just been told he's got a 'Lottie' too, so perhaps you can encourage each other!

My only advice is, grab a coffee/tea/beer/bottle of vino, pull up a chair, and trawl through this forum. You may need to take a week off - it's addictive. The search facility is useful, but extensive so if you can't find what you want, just ask - no-one minds, we all had to start somewhere

So, jump in, and have fun!

Hey welcome to the vine. I'm sure there's grapes on here better qualified than me to give advice but I think you need to go (in daylight!) and take a long hard look at what you've got, maybe take measurements and paper to draw it out .Then at home with a nice glass of whatever you fancy sit and make a plan of how you want your lottie. Then you can work out what wants doing first etc.

Hi and welcome to the vine.. I don't know if you've noticed but the advice is to have a drink, preferably alcoholic and you'll fit in just fine, we're all a bit mad so join in the fun that is the vine.

Some of us prefer copious amounts of coffee... (so it doesn't have to be alcoholic if you don't like).

                Hi & Welcome!!

Congratulations on your allotment! I know only too well the excitment. I had a call mid Nov to say that I had come to the top of the list and we were so excited that we drove down the same day to peer longingly over the gate as we didn't have the key!

I joined here before I got my key so had a few days to read as much as I could. I took over my plot just over 2 weeks ago and have been clearing brambles, couch grass and bindweed as well as digging ever since!

Good luck! Seems there are plenty of newbies, we can help each other and keep each other motivated during these cold, wet, dark months.
