  • Hello all.

Hi, My wife and I took on an allotment in late summer. It was derelict and hadn't been worked for many years, Possibly as many as 20.

Anyway, we have worked really hard to clear the 8ft high brambles and weeds covering the entire plot. We now have the soil in a position where we will be ready to plant in the next few weeks.

My wife is looking forward to the veg and I am keen to look after the soft fruit side of things.

We are really lucky in that we have several fruit trees on the plot at the back which, this year, produced a lot of very nice, apples, pears and plums.

Up until now we only have experience of growing a small quantity of veg in out back garden, so we have much to learn and will be asking a lot of questions no doubt.

Welcome aboard dude - good luck with your endeavours and congrats on the plot.

              Now, serious question - what's the q-plate? Import? Write-off?

Hehe, A few years ago, I built a kitcar and it ended up with a 'q' plate and since then it stuck for forums, etc.

This is a picture of how it was on the day we picked up the key.

This is what it looked like a couple of weeks later.

And finally what it looked like yesterday. We have just taken over the plot next door which is where I am standing to take the picture. The plot to the right is the original one.

G'Day Qplate - a very warm welcome to you from Down Under! That was a mammoth task to clear the lottie, one that I wouldn't like to do. I reckon it must have resulted in loads of splinters and thorns as well as backache! Well done!

Welcome q plate - now that looks like a serious plot! How many are you feeding?

Whats the allotment situation like in Coventry - did you have to wait long for a plot?

They both look big plots. I have two plots also but I don't think the total area matches yours.
Yours will keep you both gainfully employed for a while yet!
