Welcome to the Vine Roadcar - and thanks for explaining your name! What are you most interested in growing - allotments, chickens or gardening? Lincolnshire is famous for the productivity of the land so hope you are in a good growing area!!

            Hi Jeanied
I live out in the countryside in Lincolnshire about 10 miles from the Humber Bridge. I interested in growing veg, fruit, I was think about keeping chickens but i don't have a great deal of land and I have a cat as well, so it would not go down well. I put my name down for an allotment, so I hope to get one this year. I would like advice on growing veg in tubs. Can you help me?. I grew some potato this year in a tub but did not go all that well. A neighbour of mine gave me a couple of tomato plants a few years ago and that went well. I have pear tree and apple tree in my garden.

Hi again Roadcar - some chickens won't take any nonsense from a cat so don't let that stop you - unless your cat is a fearsome predator (as a child one of our cats brought home a pheasant! Alive, but not for long!) Mine tend to stop at the odd baby blue tit or goldfinch. Try the chicken forum for more info!
As for container growing - well there is a wealth of info in the threads on container growing under the vegging out section and the growing techniques section. Try out the search button which will help you find what you need (that's the bit that foxes some of us ). What do you fancy growing?

Hi Roadcar - I live about as far north of the Humber Bridge as you are south of it! we got our chickens from a supplier in Lincolnshire, near Crowle.
Growing your own veg is the most fun you can have with your clothes on!

                        Hi RoadCar, and welcome!

Although I grow them in beds as well, I love growing carrots, parsnips, salads, strawberries etc in tubs too. When I started growing my own root veg, I planted carrot seeds in (cardboard) litre milk cartons. A bit crude you might think, but considering the limited space I had, they were great containers. The end results were delicious. Container growing may have its drawbacks (lots of watering) but the results can be fantastic. Good luck with the growing.
A good beginning is half the work.
Praise the young and they will make progress.
