  • hello everyone

Hi all,i have been snooping on this site for a while now,so thought i would jump in.I am computer phobic so please be patient with me.
I hav e just been given a new plot which was absolutely horrendous but had been waiting so long that i jumped at the chance, now thanks to my husband and eldest son it looks fantastic.raised beds ,paths ,new shed and polytunnel.
Now i have been getting some pretty withering cooments about o is it a show plot,o you will never grow anything in there, etc etc I am beginning to dread going down.
Will this all settle down, the other thing is that i am the first plot so everyone has to pass me.
Sorry this is a bit long!!

Firstly Carol the carrot (chuckle at the name) - welcome to the Vine. Secondly - don't you worry about those other plot holders - allotment envy is a nasty disease! You just put in what you want to grow to eat, or what you think looks great, and if you have any questions - ask your friends on the vine! Whereabouts in the country are you growing? You may find some nearby friends right here!
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

OK first off ...Hello and welcome . I am pretty useless with the poota as well but as with everything else on here ask and help will be given by all the friendly and knowledgeable grapes .
Secondly take no notice at all of snidey little comments from people who are so obviously jealous of what you've done with your plot. Toughen up Gal and ignore them , do your own thing after all it is yours to grow things how YOU want. When they realise that you're not going anywhere they'll either shut up and put up or they'll start to get friendly.
        Hope this helps

Hello and welcome to the vine Carol the carrot

You enjoy your plot and don't bother one bit about what anyone says and anyway they're probably just jealous.

Just watch out when you start getting 'advice' Carol - I try and avoid chemicals and inorganic techniques and you'd be amazed at the daftness I have been advised to do over the years - spray and nuke anything that moves! Check out on here first - most people will come up with a range of ideas and you then get to decide!
My best tip is to get generous with seedlings if you have too many and produce when you get a glut. Best way to find out who is a friend and who isn't.
There is something dead odd about a fellow allotmenteer who gets huffy about the first plot on the site looking good... If it was looking scruffy, I could understand a bit more. Weird.
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

                              welcome to the vine

Be proud of all the hard work you have done, don't give up just because of some stupid people. Do what you want to do, as long it is within the rules of your allotment and enjoy it.
