  • Hello from Italy

Hi all, I'm a 23-year-old boy from from Italy just subscribed on this very helpful forum.

I'm a seed saver and I have also gave life to a foundation called "Tomato Seed Saving" which is exactly about the collection and reproduction of local Tomatoes but also other rare vegetables.

Looking forward to exchange seeds and to share experiences!

    Cristian

      Buon giorno Christian

Be sure to read up on our rules regarding seed swapping; http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...ers_43942.html

Just helps keep this place the friendly helpful place it is.

I've never had much in the way of success with tomatoes - I don't have the indoor space needed and they don't do well at all for me outside. As a result, I have given up growing them.

When in Tuscany a couple of years ago I had some of (if not the) best tasting tomatoes I've ever had.

Very envious - oh, and welcome aboard!

Hi there- and welcome to the Vine!
Where abouts in Italy are you? I bet you can grow superb tomatoes!

There are a few tomatoholics on the Vine ..unfortunately I'm only just starting to get my head around tomato plants- everyone else seems to do so much better than me- even here in northern France!
Is there anything else you grow??

I do grown many varieties of tomatoes like the one in the photo which can last for the whole winter simply keeping them hanged up in a cold fresh place.
Other ones are "Datterino", "Principe Borghese", "Canestrino di Lucca", Yellow pear shaped and many other local varieties.

I used to live in the South and actually in the Middle-North.

I do also grow peppers, aubergines, lettuce, carrots, broccoli, aromatic plants (like basil or rosemary), melon and watermelons, onion, garlic, courgettes, beans and broad beans, lentil, peas and chickpeas,

Regarding fruit trees I have cherries, almonds, pears, apricots, plums, figs, pomegranate, mulberry and other wild fruits like strawberries, raspberries and blackberries.

The cultivation takes me a lot of time and thank God I share this passion with my wife and my brother-in-law that help me to manage the all.

Hello and welcome! I love the idea of Tomatoes that just 'hang around' for the winter until you want to use them.

It's very common, especially in the South. They can last from August until March/April. The trick is to not water them at all and use special varieties.

I am a self confessed tomato obsessive, I'm growing over 30 varieties this year.
