  • Touching Base!

    Hi Guys,

Just a quick note to say hi n let (those of you who know us both) you know we are both still around, still have the 2 allotments and the bees are doing fab!

We've got 2/3rds of the plots planted up, and with over 1000 seeds planted (in propogators) this last weekend, we should have plenty of things to transplant once the weather improves a bit!

All 3 of the beehives we set up last year have come thru the winter, 2 of them are really strong and we are hoping to split them into new hives in our new 2nd apiary in the next few weeks, bringing our total to 5 beehives (tho we do have 2 spares just in case!)

We've still not got chooks yet, that project is on hold for the moment (an unexpected bill for car repairs means the money we'd been saving to get them this summer has now gone), but perhaps something for the not too distant future, we hope!

Anyhows, just thought I'd pop in n say hello!

    Suzanne and Lee
    Blessings
    Suzanne (aka Mrs Dobby)

Bees? Fascinating creatures. I could bake no end of honey cakes! However, chickens bing a garden to life - hope that plan's not delayed too long. Nice to have you back.

Thanks for the welcome back guys, tis appreciated!

We had the bee inspector round today to do a DEFRA inspection, he was happy with what he saw, and after finding queen cells in 2 of our hives we were able to split the 3 hives into 7, so once the queens have hatched and been mated over the next few weeks, we should then have 7 viable colonies, 3 existing colonies in our existing apiaryin plot 2, and the new 4 nucleus's (nucleii?) in the new apiary on plot 1!

It meant we werent able to get anything else done today, but what a great way to end our weeks hols, with 4 new hives filled with bees (currently a nucleus is selling for £200 a time, so we're pretty glad to have gotten 4 from our girls for nothing today!)
                        Blessings
