  • hello there

    Hi,
My name's Bec and I got my first allotment last year.
As it was a bit late I bought in all my plants, but this year I'm growing my own and some flowers.
Think I may have sown a few too many of some things (didn't think they'd all come up), but friends and neighbours have quite happily taken them off my hands.
It's great to read everyone's hints/tips, problems and general advice on the forums - I just wish I have more time to read them all.
    Happy gardening,
    Bec

Hi Bec and welcome to the Vine. It's worth finding a bit of time to come on here, you make friends straight away and the advice is useful too!

Hello Bec and welcome to the vine, what kind of thing's have you grown? It's always the case if you'd had sown only a few seed you wouldn't have had half as many germinate, but at least you can treat your friend's to some home grown plant's.

Hi Bec - welcome to the vine! Whereabouts in the world are you growing? It would be helpful to have this on your profile - then any advice will suit your growing conditions a bit better!
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

Belated thanks for all your welcomes/ hello's.
                    Have updated my location.
I'm growing a range of things, potatoes, leeks, onions, runner beans, DFB's, sweetcorn, courgettes, pumpkins, butternut squash, turk's turban, variety of other squashes, salad stuff, herbs, strawberries (have now got a strawberry bed instead of growbags), peas, cabbages, brussell sprouts, aubergines, peppers, carrots, swede, turnips, parsnips, garlic.
I've also got some fruit trees this year; apple, cooking apple, pear, damson, hazel and plum. My fruit bushes (some from Poundland which are coming on well), rhubarb and a giant pumpkin and giant marrow plants to see how big I can get them.
As for flowers; sunflowers (x3 different varieties), lobelia, pansy, petunia, sweet pea's, impatiens.
It certainly keeps me busy, lol.
Yesterday took some veg and flowers round to my brother and his girlfriend's garden, dug over the area and then now have a seperate flower bed and veg area. They're pleased to be growing their own for the first time, and I've got the satisfaction of knowing it's my own stock

Sounds like you've been busy! How long have you been gardening?
I seem to have a list (and seeds) of things I want to grow...then before I know it the time has shot on and I've only got three quarters done of what I intended!
Fact I'm putting down a patio and rearranging the garden hasn't helped too much on the time front either!
