  • Hi

Just thought I'd better introduce myself before I start asking all sorts of ridiculous questions.

I'm Nessa and I live in a small village in mid Norfolk. This year my husband and I decided to finally stop talking about it and actually grow our own veggies. I'm currently on maternity leave, and my husband was made redundant last year so we have plenty of time on our hands to get the plots going. We are also in the process of getting the garden ready for the arrival of my much longed for chickens.

I have so far planted quite a few bits and pieces which are all coming on well and feeling very confident about it all. My only problem is the french beans and peas i planted about 3 weeks ago. So far nothing from the peas and only 3 beans have come up. It doesn't look like anything has eaten the seeds but I'll have to wait and see, I guess.

I'm really looking forward to being able to give my little girl home grown food is really exciting.

Sorry for such a long intro.

Mice may well have eaten the seeds: dig a few up and have a look.

3 weeks ago it may have been too cold for sowing French beans; do some more

Hi Nessa - nice to meet you. Welcome to the vine. I only had 2 peas germinate out of 20 - very annoying! Mine were kept too wet in the seed tray so they rotted off. The next batch will have to brave the mice on the plot.
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

Hi Nessea, welcome to the vine! And shortly to Chooks Anon - when do they arrive?
I'd put in some more seeds in too as they sound like they're taking a while!!

Sorry I'm a bit late with this but welcome to the vine Nessa. No question's silly if ya don't know the answer that's what I say. Ask as many as you like, there's always someone who'll know the answer.

Hi Nessa ( am I the only one unable to resist the urge to call you sugar t!its? - erherm sorry- Gavin and Stacey addict here, very nice to meet you!)
Very annoying about your peas and beans.
How many chooks are you planning on getting?

Thanks for all your kind welcomes.

Have replanted the pea and bean seeds and now having much better success. Also the beetroot and broccoli i out in at the same time are coming up too.

Planning on getting about 4 ex-battery hens and a couple of birds to cook. Am just waiting until I've saved enough money to get the timber etc. to build the coop and run. Hopefully won't have to wait too much longer.
