Hi I've just joined and looking forward to sharing forums with you. My first topic is about advice on fence painting. I current have fence panels that need re-painting and in the past used a wax based fence paint. Now, I find it difficult to paint over these as the fence paint just slips off. Then I thought about using creosote, but can anyone tell me if I can creosote directly onto this wax based paint or do I need to sand them down. I have about 20 fences to cover. If the case is that I need to sand them down then I think it would be cheaper to put new fences in. Anyone help with advice? Many thanks.

Hello and a very warm welcome to the Vine! Can't help you with creosote advice - when my eldest son was about 14 he painted our fence with it and we found he was allergic to it. He was covered in blisters and was ill for over a week, so it was banned as far as we were concerned and that's nearly 20 years ago!!Granny on the Game in Sheffield

Hello and welcome from me, have you tried "Cuprinol" that's what I use and I find it to be fine for all wood fence's, even those that have been treated with wax based preservatives, all you have to do is give your fence a light sanding and you should be OK.Last edited by ginger ninger; 18-06-2010, 11:41 PM.
