  • Slangevar from Aberdeenshire

    Hi Everyone,

My name is Malph and I hail from Aberdeenshire. My first serious attempt at growing my own took place this year, which has been an overwhelming success. I have definately succumbed to the bug.

For a small plot that is exposed to the elements atop a hill combined with the harsh weather we recieve up here in addition to the pesky rabbits, deer etc.. I managed to grow a healthy amount of peas, beans, onions, carrots, raab, strawbs, raspberries, blueberries, courgettes, cauli and broccoli.

I decided to use old baths as raised beds and filled them with a layer of stones, dirt, manure then a top layer of compost. Seems to have worked out ok

Planning on getting a pollytunnel for next year and extending the plot, as what at first I thought would be a huge enough space for me as a beginner, now seems to be shrinking!

Anyway, enough waffle from me. Have been lurking around and this seems to be a most helpful site with lots of useful advice and friendly posters. So thought I'd join and say hello.

    Malph.

Strong cappa joe and a slice of ginger cake would be lovely!

Funnily enough, I have been considering making room for chooks in the planned bigger plot. Even been reccy'ing some chookhouses online

However I work full-time and when it comes to holidays and the likes, it might be an issue. It's on the backburner at the moment, but never say never.

        Thanks for the welcome.
