  • Greetings from Sussex

    Hi everyone

I have just joined this site today, after searching around for some gardening answers and not really getting very far. However, this site seems just what I need!

I have been a keen gardener for many years but have only got into fruit/veg growing last year when I became disabled and unable to work and wanted to do something productive now I have more time on my hands. I am growing everything from pots - can't dig in a garden anymore but have found pot growing a fun and challenging way to grow my crops. Last year I grew sweetcorn, leeks, cucumbers, toms and strawberries, which was an encouraging and successful start. This year I have started pot growing a Ballerina apple tree, a plum tree and rhubarb. I have also bought a hardy grapevine to trail across a garage wall, which is doing well but is trial and error on my part.

Look forward to chatting and getting tips from all you gardeners out there, and in time I may even be able to give my own tips too.

    Bye for now.
Just when you make ends meet, someone moves the ends.

Hi Potgardener, welcome to the Vine (or the Madhouse as us old faithfuls call it). Can you go to your profile and add your location? That way it will show up on your posts, and we won't have to keep asking you where you are.

Hi there PG - I'm also from Sussex - just 400yds from the coast!

Welcome to the Vine - you may find that if you ask q's that if you are a little more specific with your location we (not necessarily me included!) may be able to help you a bit better. Coastal such as myself could be quite different to say across the Downs - but still Sussex - as they protect from some weather systems etc.

Sorry you're a little 'hampered' by what you might be able to do but there are plenty of solutions to be found here - such as raised beds - even to wheelchair level and so forth - and possibly many in a similar situation.

Enjoy your time here and make loads of friends just like me! You may never meet them - but they're a great bunch of peeps. You'd be surprised the breadth of knowlege even outside the gardening field.

      Welcome aboard!

Hello PotGardener and welcome to the vine from another pot gardener, most of my garden is pot's of varying shapes & sizes. I also have a small raised bed...which I can highly recommend if you have room for one. Look forward to chatting with you about your successes...we don't have failure's, just plants that don't grow
