My Garden is fairly small but I do have a veg plot, nice borders with an array of perenials and annuals which look lovely, however I bought a plum tree three years ago and have been rewarded with bumper crops each year untill this year. It was quite sudden and the fruit stated to shrivel and then the whole tree when brown with the leaves going after the fruit dying and then the whole tree died. We had two puppies which decided to teeth on the base of the tree last year could an infection got in there they did go through the bark to the center of the tree

What a shame about your tree Sounds like the trunk chewing might have done it, by letting in a virus or something If you decide to replace it, might be worth putting a chicken-wire guard round it for protection. The only other thing I can think of is if the very dry spring we had might have stressed it too much, along with the trunk injury?
