Thank you all for your help. The OH has an interview this week and if he gets it, we'll relocate in the new year. He might have got the office location wrong again and it could be Southwark (agency are near Liverpool Street), which means South London, which I preferred.

    Fingers crossed.

      hi jojo
If you are thinking about visiting Wales and the Midlands by car then consider being further west. I lived in cardiff for a while, and the car journey to Heston services (inside m25) took as long as from Heston to SE london (near greenwich)- that last bit is only 25 miles
      good luck

        my advice

        move to GLASGOW

lower cost of living, great transport, and you get to watch CELTIC every second weekend!!!
May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields and,
Until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of His hand
        .

          Hey,

Depends what your after really, I live in Eastcote, i get the met line everyday and there have been some issues lately which are mainly due to the upgrade of the line otherwise very good.

Eastcote has some great areas nearby and the road network is brilliant to the north and west..

Plenty of south London is well connected by public transport - it's just not tube so you need to look at a diffent map (http://www.tfl.gov.uk/assets/downloa...rvices-map.pdf).

I work opposite Southwark Station and live in Sydenham. I go either to London Bridge (16 mins) on a Southern train and walk (15 mins) or London Overground to Canada Water (15mins) and then Jubilee line to Southwark (6 mins). Depends which train comes first; National rail or the fabby new London Overground. There are also direct trains to Victoria

Depending on your station you can also get direct to Charring Cross, Blackfriars, Fenchurch Street, Waterloo blah blah blah.

Liverpool Street is mainline for trains through Enfield, Tottenham, Hackney, Bethnal Green National Express East Anglia train information and route map and probably some others.

It's also central, circle Metropolitan and Hammersmith & city, but frankly getting the tube into LS in the rush hour isn't a great deal of fun. I used to do it and much prefer the nice big trains with windows you can see out of and spy on allotments next to the train line. Infact getting the tube anywhere is ruch hour is pretty rubbish; trains, overground or DLR generally preferable

For green space and gardens that gets better in zones 2 and 3; zone 1 is much more built up apart from your biggies like Hyde park and green park etc. In easy strking distance of me well as the parks with swings and stuff we have Crystal Palace Park (which has DINOSAURS!), South Norwood country park - lakes, dicky birds, Dulwich Wood- views, Streatham common, Beckenham Place Park.

Cycling is definitely doable but the hire bikes are only in central London so you can use them to finish off your journey but not for full commute unless you live in Wesminster... So you'd need your own bike for full commute. There are hills in SE London - check out the place names - Forest Hill, Tulse Hill, Gipsy Hill, Dog Kennel Hill, Herne Hill - you get the idea.

I know nothing about West London despite my year living in Wembley. It has a big stadium

PS. I have a Where to Live in London book that we used when we were combining ourselves from Crystal Palace and Stoke Newington. It's a few years old, but much of it still stands and you're welcome to it if useful

I used to live in Enfield and the train line goes to Liverpool Street and i commuted into london daily for years, now i would not recommend many parts of Enfield, but some of it is still lovely and is a very green borough, alternatively, if you are looking for more greenery and less built up areas, the train line stops at Stanstead Abbotts (a village on the river Lea, nice pub on the river and has an annual river festival), Ware, a lovely old town where the high street still has the original coaching inns (turned into pubs and shops) with their arches and old roofs, it used to be the last stop until London, also on the river Lea, also has an annual river festival as well as lots of other things and finally Hertford which is the county town of Hertfordshire.

hopefully gives you something to think about

                  Kx

Many thanks for all the help. The very good chance of us moving has been reduced somewhat with one thing and another. You're advice will be very useful once we know what is happening...
