  • Hello from the South East (of England!)

    Hi

Just 'signed up' and added a question in the section about overwintering lemons. Would be delighted for some input on whether to water the tree if it's being kept in a cool (10-12C) dark basement over the winter!

More generally, am growing a lot of our own veg and herbs and am trying to cultivate a Meditteranean feel to a section by the back of the house, with a decent-sized fig tree (which produced several-dozen good figs last season) and a new lemon tree, which came with 2 near-ripe lemons but now must have 15+ green lemons about the size of golf balls. I'm hoping this will over-winter OK so we have a good crop of lemons next year.

Look forward to hearing from those with a similar interest.

    Cheers
    Jezzer

Mornin' Jezzer, and welcome to the madhouse!

The only thing I know about Lemons, is, well, they're good for making Limoncello, and fab in a G & T. My Sister can grow 'em, but she lives in Spain!

    No help at all, me!

Hi Jezzer and welcome to the vine. My lemon bush survived last winter, tucked up against the house wall (radiator lives on the other side) and wrapped in bubblewrap. The fall of snow on top gave it extra insulation. The leaves stayed on - and I didn't water it at all for the winter months. It recovered in the spring, enjoyed some rainwater and a citrus feed, and went on to flower better than ever.
