Hi there- and welcome to the Vine...you'll find there are lots of other interesting characters on here too!..piccie of bike??...yup- why not!

Will see what I can find.

I bet this time next year you'll be tempted to try out some of the more 'unusual' types of veg!!...oh and maybe a few chooks!!!!
Interesting comment. At the moment I am content to stick with the veg I know and will gro what I will eat. Mrs Chopper likes peppers and celery but I can't stand either. I will try to grow some just for my better half. Once I have got the hang of things I may be tempted to try something new. I am learning all th etime about gardening, so who knows what may happen later.

          Thankyou for the welcome.

          Regards

          Chopper.

            Oh no!
No tomatoes, chillies, sweetcorn, squash, French or runner beans (they're S.American)
Just cabbage, carrots and leeks then.
            Even spuds are foreign
So we have a Pedant among us!

What I meant was I will be growing the veg that British people traditionally grow and eat. Tomatos, French, Broad and Runner Beans and of course potatos will be on my list as I really do enjoy them. Can't stand peppers or chillies. If I have space I would like to grow some sweetcorn as I have four chickens. I dropped a couple of fresh corn cobs in thier pen and they loved them. Would be nice to grow a treat for them. I get four lovely fresh eggs every day from them. They are getting very tame as well now.

I have got a badly dissabled hand from a accident in my late teens and chronic back pain from an accident when i was 6 and suffer neck and head pain from another accident at work 12 years ago that forced me on to jobs scap heap.

I share a lottie with my old pal who along with me spent a life managing supermarkets until his eyes got too bad. He is now 100% blind and has also been forced on to the scap heap.
There are many jobs i cant do and many he cant do, so we share tasks around the plot.
I could write a book about some of our exploits and those on the plots close to ours always know when we are down for we are always laughing and joking when doing things, or sat supping tea talking about the old days.

When either of us is feeling low a phone call to the other is real tonic for we take the er... mick, out of each other all the time and have done so for almost 40 years

Our Lottie may not be the smartest (hahaha) on the site, but we do grow enough veg to keep his not and my lot fed for half the year.
Keep plodding away pal and enjoy your growing and DLTBGYD
              Roger (yes my real name)
              Hi Roger

Thankyou for the welcome. I really like your attitude mate. Fight back and crack on. Sounds like you and your pal are getting the same sort of benefit from your plot as I am from my garden.

I am not kidding about the garden being very good anger management therapy for me. No matter how angry or frustrated I am, ten minutes among the plants, fresh air and my polytunnel and I am chilled out. Amazing really and far better than any of the drugs the quacks want me to take and I refuse to.

Some days I can only do a little bit and on those days if it is not too cold I just sit in a chair in the tunnel with a good book. Feel much better after. I have met a few people that would not normally approach me. They have seen what I have been doing and have come to speak to me when I am outside. I suppose the garden is common ground and even though I look a bit rough, that common ground is an ice breaker. Now that can't be a bad thing can it?

The village where I live, has one road, 37 houses. Thats it. No shop, pub or post office. Mostly big detached houses. A lot of townies that have moved out to the country. I moved here 8 years ago next week, for over two years hardly anyone spoke to me. Few of them phoned th epolice and said they had seen me in the village!!!

Then we had some rough weather and cars wouldn't start. A few got stuck in the floods. They came knocking on the door asking me to fix thier cars and tow them out of the flood water. I used my 4X4 to tow one guy out, then got his car started for him. He tried to give me some money and I refused. Cheeky sod said he thought I could do with some cash being unemployed!!!

I may be disabled, but I earn my keep by working on bikes and doing leather work. Turned out that it was him that complained to the police when some of my club brothers called in one evening. He heard the bikes and just called the cops. We all ride big custom bikes, mostly Harleys and they are quite loud, but my brothers keep the revs down in the village when they arrive or leave.

Cops came out and knocked on the door. He had to park on the road as there were about 15 bikes parked on the drive, plus my 4X4. One of my brothers answered the door. He is 6' 8" and 32 stone, he is not fat either. The look on the cops face was priceless. The cop said "We have received a complaint about a motorcycle in the village". We all just stood there looking at him, waiting for him to say something else. He went very pale and left without saying anything else. We get that sort of stupidity all the time. Most of the time we ignore it.

              Regards

              Chopper.
