Thanks guys I'm sick and tired of tasteless supermarket rubbish so have decided to have a go at growing a few things myself to see how i get on, i've only got a little back yard and a few pots so won't be able to perform miracles but depending on how i get on i may look into getting an allotment in the future....

Start with what you like to eat Nat, but quick suggestions would be:
Tomatoes - nice and easy, but will need a sunny spot to ripen the best.
Runner and French beans are great for small spaces, and with the right watering and feeding, you should get loads of crops.
Courgettes do well in containers - we find two plants enough for me and the OH for the whole summer.
You could have a look at the 'Square Foot Gardening' thread for ideas of what does well in small spaces.
Above all, enjoy it. Gardening is fun!
